Mr. Cardell "C. D." Beasley Sr.
"Lead Horse"
1917-1989
Founder of Beasley Funeral Home
Mr. Cardell (C. D.) Beasley, Sr., whose heart was bigger than a physical man and who sought to share the love he possessed with all he met, died on Thursday, November 16, 1989, in the Laurens County Hospital. He was the second of fourteen children born to the late Willie J. and Katie Wilson Beasley of Laurens County, South Carolina. In 1941, he married the late Lucinda Sherman Beasley of Jacksonville, Florida. They enjoyed forty-seven years of love and companionship. His experience as a carpenter led him to strive for a life plumb and true.
C. D. was kind and generous- often giving of his personal means to church, and his fellowman. His favorite hymn was "Amazing Grace". He was Founder of Beasley Funeral Homes of Laurens and Fountain Inn and Beasley's Home For The Aged. He operated Beasley and Garlington Barber shop. Staff members at these establishments called him the "Lead Horse". He was a member the South Carolina Morticians Association, Inc., serving as Chaplain at the time of his death. He was also a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc.
He was a member and deacon of the Caine Street Church of God. He served honorably in the United States Navy. He was a Charter Member of Laurens County Community Action and served as Chairman of the Board from 1969-1974. He was a Charter Member of Citizens Improvement Organization, a member of the Kiwanis Club, Receipient of the Charles E. Mason Award and receipient of the prestigious Jefferson Award in 1986. He was on the Board of Visistors of Presbyterian College of 1990, a Charter Member of Laurens County NAACP that was organized in 1966 and a member of the State Brotherhood of the Church of God.
Surviving to recall memories of a life well spent are his four daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Y. Beasley Shortt, Mrs. Calvernetta S. Beasley Williams, Mrs. Cornelia Elaine Beasley Walker and Mrs. Cora Lyons; two sons, Mr. Cardell D. Beasley, Jr. and Reverend Odell Beasley.

Mr. Marion Beasley, age 88 of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, transitioned at his home on Monday, March 28, 2022. Born in Laurens County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Willie J. and Katie Wilson Beasley. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Sarah Cunnigham Beasley; two children, Mr. Kenneth E. Beasley and Mrs. Simone Beasley Cleveland; and two grandchildren, Ms. Lauren Beasley and Mr. Peyton Rockefeller Beasley.
