Mrs. Sarah Lee Drummond Young, age 91, affectionately known as "Mama Sarah" transitioned peacefully at her home Saturday, September 13, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
Sarah was born to the late Willie Wilson Drummond and Annie Mae Black Drummond in Pelzer, South Carolina. She was a Class of "53" graduate from Sterling High School and a loyal member of the Alumni Group.
She lived a life of serving others. She was a faithful and longtime member of Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church and dedicated her time to the ministry in countless ways. Mama Sarah served as the musician for the Senior Choir and taught Sunday school for fifty year, uplifting hearts and spirits through music and teaching. She loved to travel and truly knew how to enjoy life. She touched the lives of many and left behind a lasting legacy of Faith, Love, and Joyful Celebration.
She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Deacon George Young, Jr.; one son, Boty Benjamin Young, Sr and one brother, Willie B. Drummond.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Linda J. (Stan) Henderson of Mauldin; two devoted sons, George Willie Young and Mitchell Young of PIedmont; daughter-in-law, Estelita Miller Young of Greenville; one sister, Mildred (Bobby) Madden of Simpsonville; six grandchildren, Lewis (Brittany) Henderson, B.J. (Aidah) Young, LaToya Henderson, Correll (Rodney) Battle, Brigham Young, and Michel'la Young; fifteen great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild; cherished supporters, Tangeca (Dennis) Brooks, Mamie Young Black, Nancy Rector, Carolyn Joy, Larry (Becky) Erdman, Octavius Bolt along with a host of relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 4 p.m., until 6 p.m. at the Beasley Funeral Home, Greenville.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 19, 2025 at Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
