Mr. Odell (Butch) Harrison, age 84, of Taylors, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his residence. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was the fourth child and third son of the late Arthur Harrison and Sara Scott Harrison. Mr. Harrison was the devoted husband of Mrs. Nellie Beatrice Harrison for sixty-three years.
Brother Odell was a pillar of his community who always engaged with calmness, strength, a smile, and humbleness that infected everyone he encountered. A devoted husband, loving father, and indulging grandfather are a few characteristics of this giant of a man. Brother Odell accepted the gift of eternal life as a youth at the tender age of 8 years old and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. CE Butler. His name can be located on the Cornerstone of the Church as a Trustee. For over seventy years, Odell was a faithful and resolute member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was a member of the Deacon Ministry, and Men's Choir. He dedicated himself to his Church for countless years by his service of driving the church van to ensure that all members had transportation to attend services until he was no longer physically capable. His commitment and unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration of the church members and peers. Odell was loved by all and was known for his integrity, reliability, and willingness to go above and beyond to help anyone who needed it.
Preceded in death: his eldest child one daughter April Blakley (Surviving Husband/Son in law of forty years: Curtis Blakley) of Greenville, South Carolina; four brothers, Edward Harrison, Richard Harrison, William Floyd Harrison, and Strom Thurmond Harrison.
Surviving: two sons, Odell (Tiajuana) Harrison Jr., and James Harrison both of Taylors, South Carolina; one sister, Barbara Jean Grant of Greenville, South Carolina, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will be on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 10am-6pm in the chapel of Beasley Funeral Home Greenville. Celebration of Life services will be held 2pm Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery West.
