Mrs. Mary Lee Jones Sweeney, age 85, died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville, SC. Born in Laurens County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Odell Jones and Areather Campbell Jones, wife of the late Harley Sweeney, Sr., member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a former employee of Union Carbide (now Kemet). She is survived by five children, Harley (Lydia) Sweeney, Jr. of Mauldin, SC, Mary (Reverend David) Byrd of Gray Court, SC, Thomas (Shirley) Sweeney of Simpsonville, SC, Peggy (Anthony) McCrorey of Mauldin, SC and Douglas (Jo Ella) Sweeney of Simpsonville, SC; one granddaughter reared in the home for twenty-two years, Sonya Y. (Dan) Norris; one sister, Sarah Ellen Satterwhite of Fountain Inn, SC; one brother, Willie B. (Hattie) Jones of Fountain Inn, SC; twelve grandchildren and brothers-in-law, Paul Ray, J.C. Goodjoin and Rev. Fred L. Sweeney. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. S.N. Flint and Dr. S.B. Neely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family is at the home of a son, Harley Sweeney, Jr., 104 Chetsworth Lane, Greenville, SC. Beasley Funeral Home, Fountain Inn is in charge of arrangements.
