August 18, 1941 – October 30, 2026

Ms. Doris Avery, 85, of Greenville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 30, 2026, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

A lifelong daughter of Greenville, Doris was born on August 18, 1941, to the late Daniel Avery Sr. and Tivola Sweeney Avery. She grew up here, made her home here, and gave many years of faithful service as a custodian with Greenville County Schools. There she quietly cared for the buildings where generations of Greenville’s children learned and grew. Her work was steady and often unseen, but it was a gift to the community she called home all her life.

Doris was a beloved sister, grandmother, and friend, and all who knew her will miss her deeply.

Doris was employed with Winn Dixie Bakery for 30 years, Greenville County School system and Taylors First Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two brothers, James (Margaret) Avery and Bernard Avery (Roberta Young), both of Greenville; three sisters, Kathleen Brooks of Piedmont, Ruth (Vincent) Avery-Pridgen of Greenville, and Vernell (Danny) Gilliam of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Myles Avery and Zora Noel Avery, and Virginia Avery her sister-in-law; a host of other relatives and friends
