Mr. Charles Edward Phelps, age 71, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. He was educated in the public schools of Greenville County and a veteran of  the United States Navy serving active and reserve duty receiving an honorable discharge after four years of service.

He was the son of the late Marion Phelps, Sr and Alberta Smith-Gaddis. Surviving: one daughter, Angela Phelps; one son, Jonathan Knowles; two brothers, Marion (companion, Sylvia)Phelps, Jr., and Maurice (Gladys) Gaddis; six sisters, Dianne Poole, Patsy Poole, Bennie Mae (Larry) Phelps-Davis, Doris J. Gaddis, Belinda D. Garnett, and Elaine (Stanley) McKinney, all of Greenville, South Carolina; his very special long-time companion, Shirley Davis of Greenville, South Carolina; her two sons, Jimmy Davis of Florida and Jimorra Davis of Greenville, South Carolina; a bonus grandson, Dakari Hitman; and a fur baby, Bernie Mac.

Public viewing will be on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 10am-6pm at Beasley Funeral Home Greenville. Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Mountain View Baptist Church with interment immediately following in Greenville Memorial Gardens with military honors.
